About Me

Seriously - are you really interested in reading about me?

Well you have taken the trouble to find this section, so I suppose I had better write something.....

As you have probably worked out from the title of this blog, I'm a woman of mature years - born in the year of Queen Elizabeth's coronation ( the 2nd not the 1st).

I have 2 amazing adult children, have been single for nearly 10 years and have 4 delightful little dogs.

I'm retired ( thank goodness), but spent all my working life in a highly stressful sales/service organisation.  Part of my job involved quite a bit of international travel and it was the most frustrating thing  for someone with wanderlust.

"Where are you off to next" a well meaning friend would ask.

"Paris/New York/Madrid/Sydney/Aberdeen (delete as appropriate)", I would reply.

"Ooooooo how wonderful - you are lucky".  Well not really, because most of the time my meetings would be inconveniently situated in an airport hotel so I could fly there and back on the same day and for long haul it usually went something like this...

Fly in. Get picked up and taken to hotel to work and try to get some sleep. Early next morning, get picked up and taken to an office building somewhere. Spend all day in meetings.  Back to hotel to work. Early morning flight home and straight into the office.

I've seen a lot of airports, but not much of the cities I was visiting.

So when I retired, I decided to try to see as much of the world as possible.

I adore traveling alone - it''s great to be able to go where I want, when I want (finances permitting) and I particularly enjoy planning my trips myself.

Hmm ... what else.....

I love snorkelling, photography ( although I'm a complete novice) and generally prefer animals to people!!

I love making things out of stuff that everyone considers rubbish and absolutely hate throwing anything away.  (I have a big garage!!)

I can't stand what we humans are doing to the planet and I hate the fact that several hundred species of animals become extinct every single day.

Others may call me a "lefty" or a socialist and if they only read the right wing media they may be confused into thinking I'm a communist.    I'm not.

I prefer to label myself as compassionate and I believe we all belong to one race - the human race.

I also believe that history should be a core subject in education, because without knowing where we have come from and learning the lessons of the past, we can never achieve  a peaceful , secure and sustainable future.

When the power of love overcomes the love of power - the world will know peace.
